Server Doesn't Receive Quickmatch joins anymore

Here is my server's historical data: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/173.199.104.115:25200/ [gametracker.com]

As you can see, we saw a lot of activity during the first week of release. One or two people from our platoon could join the server and it would fill to 64 players within minutes or even seconds. Over the weekend I did a server reinstall in an attempt to fix a problem with the server dumping all players. After doing this update, the activity completely drops off (the small spikes are from people in my platoon trying to get it seeded). We no longer get joins from players who choose quickmatch.

I don't think this is a coincidence; after the reinstall it wiped the server from Favorites and History and my theory is that Quickmatch never picked it up again. A couple of times we had the 8 person minimum and played an entire match but never had a single join outside of friends we invited. None of the config has changed from the default. The server shows up in Battlelog. Let me reiterate: we had over 3500 unique hits to the server in the first few days of release. I did a reinstall in an attempt to fix a problem, and now we get ZERO new hits. That just doesn't seem like bad luck to me.

Has anyone else had this problem? I think this is a serious issue because server operators are essentially wasting their money on servers that see zero population from Battlelog's quickmatch. I would appreciate any help in getting the word out to DICE and would like to see a fix for this soon.

My theory is that there is something on the back end of Battlelog that hasn't picked the server up again for quickmatch eligibility. I've tried restarting the server several times and no luck.

Also, why did my server get wiped from all favorites and history when I did the reinstall? This is another problem IMO because a lot of players choose servers from their history or favorites to play on (I think that's the point of favorites, I could be wrong though). My server was down for less than a minute while it reinstalled, but Battlelog decided it was no longer around. Now I can't even recover the people who visited the server the most during its uptime.

Bump this if you want to see it resolved or think this is a problem. I'm sure it's an issue for many other operators as well who are having 100% empty servers. I think this is an issue worth caring about because the community supports the game's multiplayer by providing the server infrastructure, and DICE/EA should try to help them out, especially since Battlelog "should" be trying to populate servers automatically.

Edit: Also tried the R6 update after this issue started. No luck.
Another edit: I have tried literally everything within my power to fix this. I've tried another reinstall, server name change, putting in all config values needed for quickmatch, etc. I doubt my Gameservers support ticket will solve the problem too, I think the issue is with Battlelog's Quickmatch system on the back end. I would really appreciate a response from DICE/EA.

Also ran tests on changing server name, changing server configs to ones generated via Procon, and even did a 2nd clean wipe of our entire server.

The same thing happened to our server. Check this out.

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/7070/serverpn.jpg [img198.imageshack.us]

Our server was highly populated 24/7 and after the reinstall that Gameservers told us to do to fix the crashing our population spiked and has since never recovered. Not to mention it continued crashing. Doing Quick Match settings and bombing it with our platoon as helped during the day but we never stay at a full 64. Now if you were to drop the server down to 32 and apply the quick match settings and populate it with an alright amount of players (8 minimum) you will see traffic. It seems that quick match does not work for 64 players and thus those servers suffer the most.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Battlelog only supports 150 servers and if you were on the top of that list you no longer will be after the reinstall. Our success was mostly a result of being lucky enough to be at the top 150 and have literally hundreds of favorites due to our no kill cam option.

My advice to you is pick a time and bomb the server with your platoon and run the quick match preset on Proconn. Lower it to 32 and give it time. I honestly wish you the best of luck because as a server owner and leader of a large gaming community I honestly know how you feel.

EDIT: Tell you what, just in case you don't know what the quick match variables are I am going to copy and paste them here for you.

vars.friendlyFire false
vars.noInteractivityTimeoutTime 300
vars.teamKillCountForKick 5
vars.teamKillValueForKick 4
vars.teamKillValueIncrease 1
vars.teamKillValueDecreasePerSecond 0
vars.autoBalance true
vars.killCam true
vars.miniMap true
vars.3dSpotting true
vars.miniMapSpotting true
vars.3pCam true
vars.vehicleSpawnAllowed true
vars.vehicleSpawnDelay 100
vars.bulletDamage 100
vars.nameTag true
vars.regenerateHealth true
vars.roundRestartPlayerCount 4
vars.roundStartPlayerCount 8
vars.onlySquadLeaderSpawn false
vars.allUnlocksUnlocked false
vars.soldierHealth 100
vars.hud true
vars.playerManDownTime 100
vars.playerRespawnTime 100

To get this to truly work however you will need to drop it down to a 32 player map as from what I have concluded quick match does *not* pick up 64 player servers.

We were running RoundRestartPlayer and StartPlayerCount at -1, correcting now

Went ahead and ran the quickmatch preset as you instructed, will see if i have any luck.

Try that. And then fill it with your platoon during a prime time. It should help.

I say again however that 64 will, not, work.

EDIT: Also again, if you were on the 150 list and were removed due to the wipe you will not get that back either.

Went ahead on put on a 32 man map to see if i get any random joins.

It's an absolute shame if we lost our popularity due to the top 150 list, like...It's just hard for me to fathom the idea that servers are getting random priority over others

EDIT: Good sir: YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, I just got my first random quickmatch join in 48 hours. Now just to figure out the horrible horrible task of figuring out how to populate a once popular server that needed no maintenance.

You need a platoon to assist you as well as a minimum of eight players. I strongly suggest bombing it one night or setting aside nights to play with your friends to better help.

Psycho, thanks for your help. At least we aren't the only ones experiencing this problem.

I'm going to continue to bump this thread in hopes that DICE becomes aware of the issue and looks at it

We get maybe half a dozen random joins now, but absolutely nothing like we used it.

There are just way more servers than players. Not all servers are going to get filled.

Did you read my post? Or the others from Psycho? I strongly suggest you do. The argument isn't that my server should be full, it's that it should have a chance to have quickmatch placements on it.

If you did read my post, are you suggesting that it's a good system where Battlelog keeps a short list of 150 "eligible" quickmatch servers out of thousands, and no others will ever see activity outside from what the server operators organize? I will admit that while there is a lot of Battlelog hate, I truly think that one area Battlelog has the chance to shine in is matchmaking. In a game like CS, if you buy a server, there is a good chance that you will quite literally NEVER see any activity if you don't have LOTS of friends to invite. In BF3, there is the opportunity for Battlelog to ensure that all servers see some activity. Right now that is not the case, in fact, quite the opposite is true: most servers will never see activity from non-invited people.

I am trying to support the 64 man Conquest multiplayer in BF3, I would think most others who play this game would want to do the same, not say "system is fine as it is, if you can't receive quickmatch joins, too bad, you wasted your money"

1:There is approximately 6000 servers for the PC platform. And millions of players.

2: Correct me if I'm wrong, but bf3 netted somewhere around 5 million PC users. If 5% of all users on bf3 logged into every single server evenly, each server would have 40 players. Assuming that my rough math isn't wrong of course

So yea...wrong on both counts.

Um, just go look at all the empty servers and that should tell you......

Don't need to do some horrible math to figure it out.

Also, it sold 5 million total, not just PC.

So yeah, don't open your mouth unless you know of what you speak.
