So this was the last little bug that was absolutely plaguing my BF3 gameplay experience. I had fixed the map change bug, got it running a lot more smoothly on my mid-range GTX 550 Ti graphics card by disabling Phyx, and the Battlefield 3.exe is not responding crash is not happening nearly as frequently as it was before...
But I was still really upset, because no matter what, mid combat, I would lose a good majority of the sounds except for extreme distance sounds. This also took a TON of fun out of driving tanks, because they we're silent.
Well, after a LOT of digging around to know avail, I finally found a fix that definitively worked for me from a comment on a youtube video posting about the same problem.
Within the C:\Documents\Battlefield 3\Settings\PROF_SAVE_profile .txt document that everyone should have, there is an option at the very top called GstAudio.AudioQuality. This is, as I have found, an independent variable outside of the normal HI-FI, War Tapes, Headphones, etc options that are available to us. It was defaulted to 0, and I changed this to 4. Instantly, all my sound glitches are COMPLETELY gone, and I am enjoying this game immensely now.
If you are having similar issues, I can'g guarantee this will work for you like it did for me, but if it does, please post your resuls in this thread.
Sir, you are my new best friend.
I've had NO sound for my entire game experience.
And, I, actually thought that's how the game was supposed to sound.
Now, wow, just, wow, the audio in this game is amazing.
im gonna try this.
Btw u mean Gst.Audio.AudioQuality rite?

Awesome, I'm glad that I was able to spread this more! I'm kind of surprised this has not circulated more and I had to dig it up from a YouTube comment.
This is the second thing I've fixed in a week on my computer that has been haunting me....first my hard drive constantly churning (some random sysrestore page file that was constantly writing) that I finally stopped and now this, I too am very very happy I can enjoy the amazing sounds of Battlefield 3
EDIT: Yeah, sorry, it's late and my eyes are tred. Gst.Audio AudioQuality, not get.
Works for me!
Thank you very much sir!
No problem Blacktroll! Keep this on the first page guys, I want as many people to be able to see it as possible, if not get this stickied.
Just changed it, if this works I will effing love you forever. So annoying not being able to tell when I'm being locked on :/

Good luck Purgarus, I hope it works for you too. That was one of my biggest problems too. I'm almost about to unlock the last thing with jets, but it was always a pain to have to sometimes guess when to fire my flares because my sound cut out....
STICKY! STICKY! STICKY! STICKY LICKY DING DONG! STICKY THIS MOFO! UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME FIX! THIS DUDE IS A FRIGGIN GENIOUS! EA JUST GOT PWND BY THIS DUDE
People complain about COD being the same with every game right? So people would still complain about BF3 being the same as BF2 if it was. Move along with the times guys.
-others on profile.
Sweet find man. Leave it up to the BF community to "patch" something. Seriously though WTF is taking DICE so long?
Anyone test the differences? Any settings better then war tapes?
Just changed it. Hopefully it works just as well for me as it does for everyone else! Great find!
