Hi,

I'm having trouble with BF3 on Windows 8 Enterprise, after ~5-7 minutes of playing BF3 crashes for no apparent reason.

Specs:

Intel i7-3770
ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe (BIOS rev: 0703)
4xKingston PC3-10700 8GB
nVidia Geforce GTX 465 (with Windows 8 drivers 302.82)

System drive:
Samsung HD204UI
BF3 is installed on:
Intel 520 SSD

If I boot windows 7 it works flawlessly.

I tried set BF3.exe to run in Windows 7 compatability mode, no change.

I'm an IT Pro and being able to play BF3 without reboot is a nice thing. the reason I need windows 8? because I develop apps and services that runs on Windows 8.

Good for you, doesn't answer my question tho.

MS doesn't develop BF3, everything else works, so it's either a BF3 or a NVidia issue (I've sent NVidia the same message)

You have been here long enough to know these forums are not a good place to seek actual help. If you are actually an 'IT PRO' then you should know a few people that can help you. The children here will not be able to help any more than a quick google search.

Edit: Availl was a little faster ...
If you're IT pro you should be able to troubleshoot your Windows 8 problem without Battlefield community help.
Fact, that you are looking for help here says all ...

For an IT pro you sure come off as a bullshitter because any person with a brain knows windows 8 is going to be a big piece of shit.

If you're running intel on your entire system I don't see the matter of fact indulging you to ugprade to Win8. AMD processors got a huge buff. Slightly better memory menagement won't favor Win8 over 7. It only worth if you're on the green side. Even Phenom II processors got a boost, 5%-15% depending on the application. Proper scheduler FTW. Well, if you like Win8 tiles go ahead.

Microsoft has gone Winamd this time. Sounds weird, I know. Windows 9 could follow Linux modular behavior. So we could change the Kernel according to our hardware. Just wondering. Windows 9 is a must thought. So far the changes in it are very exciting, If rumours were true.

DPC latency is the thing that's keeping most gamers from upgrading, I believe.
Normally in W7 with DPC Latency Checker it's in the low green range, with W8 it's idle at the yellow range and occasionally bumps into the Red range.
Anyways, back on topic: Windows 8 Compatible drivers?
I remember getting BF3 to run flawlessly on W8 Release Preview, shouldn't be any different in W8 RTM.

DPC latency is no different to W7. From the website which hosts the tool:
Windows 8 Compatibility: The DPC latency utility runs on Windows 8 but does not show correct values. The output suggests that the Windows 8 kernel performs badly and introduces a constant latency of one millisecond which is not the case in practice. DPCs in the Windows 8 kernel behave identical to Windows 7. The utility produces incorrect results because the implementation of kernel timers has changed in Windows 8 which causes a side effect with the measuring algorithm used by the utility. Thesycon is working on a new version of the DPC latency utility and will make it available on this site as soon as it is finished.

Question, what is your opinion on the new walled garden called the Windows App store that will be shoved in everyone's face?
Your reply might be very witty, but you're still feeding the troll.

I got the game up and running on Win 8 RTM with the Nvidia WHQL drivers for Win 8. I heard that using the latest Win 7 drivers are better, but i haven't tested it out yet.

All in all the game runs great. The only annoying thing I noticed was whenever I die, the screen cuts black for a few milliseconds. I'm sure it's a driver thing.

As for your problem, is it a fresh install? And if so, you installed and updated all the drivers for everything else?
