When I double click on origin it doesn't run. I went to battlelog.battlefield.com and clicked to run a server, as to force run it. It popped up and said I was in offline mode. I clicked online mode, and it said origin needs to apply a critical update and that I need to restart origin. I clicked restart, and it never popped back up. I tried reinstalling origin, but it says the installation could not be complete or something like that.

I am having the exact same problem. It will ask to update, I select yes and nothing happens. Eventually it will load Origin in offline mode. I try to connect to online, and we start the same cycle over again. WTF EA?!?! WTF?!?!

Same.
Apply update, downloads at super slow speeds, disappears and origin loads in offline mode. Rinse, repeat.

Origin's website runs slow for me, etc etc.

wtf?

i have the same problem, i but i also received an error "updatetool.exe could not be found". it seems to try to be updating to the latest version (v9.05?) and there is a 45mb download that for some reason is only comming down for me at about 30kb/sec. it gets part way and gives the updatetool error. another post says to look for a originTMP.exe file in the origin folder and click it, but i dont have that file. ive reinstalled origin 3 times now with no resolve. tried an earlier version of origin (7/11) and have been waiting over an hour so far for it to update to 8.5 and its only at 70%.

anyone have a fix and/or reason for this?

Just a shot in the dark: have you guys cleared your temp files in Windows..? Windows Key + R > type %temp% in the dialog box and highlight all the files > hit the DELETE key > click SKIP for the one(s) that can't be deleted.

Give that a shot and see if it helps.
