DirectX Crash

Not long after joining a game, Battlefield crashes. After the crash I get the following message:

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed commands.. GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 ", Driver: 31090

The only way to even get rid of the crash report is to open task manager and "end task". I've only got 44 Hours (long-time console player) on the PC version of the game, but this crash just recently started. I've tried multiple servers, game modes, etc, so I know that it's not only End Game maps/servers. It is very frustrating. Is there anyway I can fix this? Or will I have to wait for a Battlefield patch?

reformat windows...Im not even joking. I had that problem for three months and no one at EA could help me. I tried everything, but I only got it to work again after reformatting. Good luck. The Game is beyond Broken.

Wouldn't reinstalling directx fix this problem?

Also, do you have Fraps? and what OS do you have? I have an assumption the problem is caused by fraps and Windows 8

Same here. Just started happening with the latest expansion (End Game).

Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti OC and Win7 x64

***Please reply if you've managed to find a solution (other than formatting Windows)***

Roll back your drivers. Then re install the latest drivers it worked for me. Try checking event viewer for a more in detail description of the error.

I was getting the same message too (only after the 6 gig patch), but its fine now.

Use drivers 306.97.They work...I tried every driver above this for my msi twin frozr 680 and the card became unstable on BF3.

So went back to the trusty solid working driver.Everything is fine again.

Also shut your pc down after new driver install.

I've been using the free version of Fraps for a few days. And I'm on Windows 7.

I'll try rolling back the drivers, though.

EDIT: I just went to this website:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 [microsoft.com] and downloaded the program. After running it, everything seems to work fine. Thanks for your help guys.

EDIT 2: Nevermind. It only worked for one game. My game crashed again soon after the start of a second game.

Okay, so it's only a temporary fix. But running the program downloaded from the link above will check to make sure you have the latest Direct X version. For some reason, running that every game or two will keep my game from crashing.

It's not too much of a hassle. It simply checks that everything is up-to-date and then tells me I don't need to install anything. It takes like 15 seconds, then my game works. I don't understand it, but it's good enough for now I suppose.

Try this. restart your PC, close Fraps and run that program and try playing. If that works then do the same, but without running the program to see if you really need the program.

I really really believe it's a Fraps related problem.

Same issue ...

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed commands.. GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570", Driver: 31407

Been happening for about 3 weeks - pain in the ass - crashed during about 50% of my games. Previously played for hundreds of hour with on problems - changed nothing on my computer - now the game is virtually unplayable because of all the crashes!

Doubtful. I'm experiencing the same problem and I'm not using Fraps.

Any more leads? Patch in the works?

Has anybody heard anything new? It's only getting worse now.

This is getting completely ridiculous. It crashes every single game now.

I heard you could fix this by bumping your GPU voltage, this is because your overclock was too much for the current voltage, and if it was on a non OC'd card you had to go to the manufacturer site, search for the card, and download the BIOS update for the card.
Just a random IT support agent. That's a ten.

well I reduced my factory OC Gigabyte 660 Ti's core clock by 117, down to nvidia's stock settings, and played a bunch last night without a single crash

Install the 310.70 graphics driver, and also re-install DirectX!
The 310.70 graphics driver is in my opinion the best driver version, it's very stable and i have never ever had any issues when using it.
I strongly recommend it!
