Sometimes helicopter flares don't work and that is really frusturating.

You might possibly be releasing the flares to early or to late.

Don't know what you mean, flares worked all the time, i used the helicopter. But there is a possibility that a missle still hits the heli if you activate them to late.

it's cause the flares don't make the missiles lock on the heat from the flares, in this game it just makes them scatter in ANY direction.

Activate them when you hear the continuous high-pitched beeping.

You just have to think on the timing on when to use them, you will get use to it, Everyone has to start somewhere.

Do they really?
as i see it, the same flares can be activated by the pilot or the gunner. once one of them does, they have to reload before they can be used again.
right/wrong?

also, flares work only with heat signature-locked missiles, if they are locked with laser (es. SOFLAM) they won't work

I've had the flares on "ready" status slamming the button as I heard the incoming and they wouldn't go off... Like a glitch.

Yes what is the story with pilot and gunner both equipping flares? Is there any advantage?

Both pilot and gunner can have a flare each.
I believe Stealth also stacks.

Interesting that you say stealth also stacks. I know both pilot and gunner can equip it, but I didn't see any advantage in several flights when me and a friend had double stealth. Having said that I find the odd enemy helo almost impossible to lock on with heatseekers, so maybe it does. I'd love to hear what others have proved in their own experience.

Regarding flares, if both pilot and gunner have them and can fire their own for a double flare effect, wouldn't that mean it's almost impossible to be shot down by heatseekers?

Yes. Played against a helicopter like that a few times. Even if you managed to Stinger-spam him so that one missile hits he'll just GTFO and regen. I think he went down once in the whole match due to wandering too close to the enemy spawn and AA batteries.

they always work !! but you need to let them recover ! once a stinger has locked on and you use your flares the stinger can often get another lock on before your flares recover ! so you need to leave the arse or hide until your flares are back online !!

Its not a glitch... You got a laserlock and you cant smoke it.

Someone is painting you with laser, like SOFLAM, or CITV in tank. Then any guided weapon like guided shell for tank, or javelin can lock onto you and you cant do anything about it, EXCEPT if you use ECM jammer before they have locked you and get the hell out of there...

I see a problem in this when everyone got citv on tanks... like operation firestorm, 4 tanks constantly painting you with laser means you have NO chance of flying anywhere near the capture points...

I'm interested in the laser system but I find all the descriptions in the game vague. When you "paint" someone does the missile track where you're pointing or is it a lock on effect? Also how long does it last for without anyone making use of the lock, and does stealth effect it's usefulness?

Also, regarding your last point, if it takes 4 guys being kept busy just denying you air support I reckon the lack of personnel is just as much a disadvantage. A lot of the setups can be exploited (ie half a team of engineers with stingers can leave your skies empty but leave them useless to defend against tanks. Battlefield, while appearing exploitable for cheap tacticians is perfectly balanced. Seriously it's like art or some shit...
