Why are you a PC gamer?

Reposting this thread because a mod locked it.

This is not a thread that is intended to cause hate towards consoles. There was zero hostility towards them in that thread. In fact, there were PC players that were talking civilly to console players.

So, why are you a PC gamer?

Everyone has a computer.

So instead of buying a console for $300, buy a $300 video card and put it in your computer. You get better graphics, better control, more options, and everything else imaginable as well as cheap games (steam).

Not to mention amazing services like GOG.com, which offers older games, reconfigured to work on modern systems without any tweaking on the player's behalf, and in most cases remastered with both audio and visual.

Consoles:
—Less cheating.
—Less expensive.
—Level playing field.
—Don't need to be upgraded as often.
—Support splitscreen on many games.

You would think consoles would be the way to go for all of us, but
they STILL DON'T ALLOW MOUSE AND KEYBOARD in most (any?) games!

Seriously. Make games moddable, and add full support for mouse and keyboard (IN GAMES), and even I might convert. I've been a PC gamer for 19 years now, and these are the main two reasons I haven't switched.
I'll admit there are other downsides
—Fewer patches
—Less customizability
—Weaker hardware
—Stronger DRM
I just don't think they outweigh the positives of consoles anymore.

I am PC gamer because i like fancy graphics, customization, simulators, FPS, real time strategy games, indy games, STEAM, mmorpg's, joysticks, MODS!!!
and not having to pay for an external system just to play my games.

Plus i am not rich, i cannot afford console gaming and get as many games as i want.

Also, the death of split screen has killed off what was, in my eyes, the biggest advantage of consoles. It used to be that PCs were for solitary or network games, while consoles supported lots of social games, games that you and a bunch of RL friends could get together and play from your couch. However, that's falling by the wayside increasingly. A lot of new FPS's don't have split screen (aside from CoD and Halo, those stubborn stalwarts), most new racing games don't have split screen. Consoles are losing their best feature.

Because my PC is stronger than any console. Plus there is no really way to prove most of those points.

Less Cheating. How have you come to this conclusion?

Less expensive. This is also debatable. My PC may have cost me a little more than the Xbox360 or PS3, but it will be far cheaper in the long run to stay with PC then consoles. Between Steam Sales, Game discounts, and the occasional torrent to test new games. I've spent less money and get twice to amount of games in my time as a PC gamer than I did when I played. Also most online gaming on PC is free. No annual fee like Xbox, and still more stable than PSN.

Don't need to be upgraded as often. The best part of PC is you can upgrade when YOU want to. Also it's cheaper. When a new console comes out. You have to spend another $300 or so on it. If I were to spend that $300 on some parts for my PC. I bet I could get a number of things with that money that you spent a one xbox.

Consoles are a mouse and keyboard away from being able to support FPS, RTS, Sims, MMORPGs, etc

Consoles are really about co-op games, and they just aren't making them anymore.

no idea, completely regret it just one silly problem after another and hackers in every game rly miss my Xbox now and most of all i miss HALO! :(

That makes sense.
It's definitely true that Xbox and PS3 have become more like neutered PCs than consoles, but each platform is still stable, which means developers can optimize their games much more effectively. That's why consoles have such good graphics compared to 6 year old PCs.

I am sorry let me restate. I like the fact that i can play indy games and also every other platform game except from the xbox 360's and ps3's games on my PC.
Mostly backwards compatibiliity.
But since consoles do not fully embrace the keyboard and mouse aspect they will be missing on half the gaming categories. And they never will.
I really like the ps2 for its coop abilities but it seems like they are abandoning the only thing that i could grasp on to.

It's true. I said it years ago and I still say it today...the Wii is the best console on the market if you're a gamer. I'll take a new Pikmin, Zelda or Mario game over just about anything released on PS3/XBOX...save for Forza 4.

This is really the crux of the issue for me. I don't understand why Microsoft and Sony haven't allowed m+kb controls in any of their consoles. It's not like it would even be difficult to add support. The USB ports are already there FFS!

Because I originally thought the the PC community was far more mature and superior to the consoles. Not to mention the games. But now I've realized that all we're going to get is shit ports and the community is worse than the consoles.

It would defeat the purpose of a console which is convenience and casuality. This is their greatest advantage, and m/k would really unbalance the games and make those games playable only by the possessors of m/k. It would also cause great imbalance between the controller/m/k community.

But why not just get a PC and plug in a xbox controller or even better a ps3 controller?

Gets me out of the house.

I've been on PC since I was young. Console controls don't suit me.
