I just got a reply from EA customer service:

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.
I understand that you are unable to play or download the close quarter due to freezing which hamper the game fun really. In this case, I will definitely try to resolve your issue.
Please perform the following steps, before launching the game.
1. From the XMB menu, select Network.
2. Select Internet Browser.
3. After the Internet Browser appears press the Triangle button.
4. Select Tools on the Options menu.
5. Select Delete Cookies or Delete Cache then select Yes to confirm.
Now reboot the PS3 and then go for the option update. After going through all these steps you will be able to play the new expansion and let me know if the issue still persist.

I cannot test this at the moment, because I'm still at work. But maybe someone else could give it a try?
