Hello!
I started getting this problem recently and I don't know is it the problem because of high summer temperatures. This is what is happening: after about couple of hours Battlefield 3 stops to respond. There is no image, but a black screen. It hangs 10-15 seconds like that and then big white pixels show up on the screen. After that usually comes the BSOD or computer simply reboots itself or more seriously shuts itself down.
Here are my system specs and temps at load:
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz 61°C
GPU: Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD5830 1GB +97°C
RAM: A-Data MX8 2 x 2GB Dual Channel
Case temperature (HWMonitor): 41°C
Outside temperature (Zagreb, Croatia): 37°C
Driver: AMD Catalyst 12.6
My question is: do I get this crash because of my graphics card overheating seriously or is it just a software problem?

UPDATE!
I've installed BlueScreenView program to analyze the dump file which is created after a BSOD. It seems that the crashes are related to ATi kernel driver "atikmpag.sys" which implies that problem relies between graphics card and system driver. When I analyzed more further the error code which is "0x00000116". I've found an explanation for this error code which is: "0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)". Since I haven't overclocked my graphics card, but was factory overclocked I finally realized that the problem is graphics card temperature. I've read on Guru3D.com a review of HD5830. There I found that the card at idle and in normal conditions operates at 21°C. Mine operates at 65°C, which leads to conclusion that crashes are caused because of high environmental temperature or inadequate cooling of card. Luckily BSOD prevents the card from being overheated and fried.
Solution: install better cooling system or change the environment.
