So, as a BF2 vet let me tell you...it was a BIOTCH to rank up. I managed to make it to Lieutenant Colonel with 780 HOURS of playtime over the course of 5 or 6 years of the games existence! The next rank would have been Colonel, where BF3 maxes out at, aside from the Colonel Service Stars.

However, BF3 also used the General ranks, progressing from Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and General.

Fun fact, in BF2, reaching General required:
- 200,000 points (kills were worth 2 POINTS, and teamwork actions worth ONE. No award bonuses either)
- AT LEAST 1,440 hours of play time
- GOLD versions of ALL of the various badges
- And as if that wasn't enough, you needed to hit a highest score of the month to be eligible.

Now, Im not saying that it needs to be THIS tough and BF3, and thank god hitting Colonel or even Colonel 100 isn't. However, considering that there are 145 total ranks in the game, Im shocked that these last 4 weren't added in some capacity to get it closer to 150, and add more visible differences between ranks.

Since you can't really squeeze these in-between Colonel and the "Service Star" ranks, you'd probably have to put them on the end, meaning it'd only be for the elite or elite. However, wouldn't it be cool if after Colonel 100, there were special requirements to reach higher ranks. For example:

Brigadier General - Earn 460,000 more points, at least 800 hours play time.
Major General - Earn 500,000 more points, have at least 1 service star with all vehicles, classes, and at least 75% of all weapons
Lieutenant General - Earn 750,000 more points, have all ribbons acquired
General - Earn 1,000,000 more points, have all medals.

And maybe to round out to 150

Battlefield General (made-up rank) - Already have General Rank, and something like top 1,000 score of the month or something.

Seems impossible now, but consider how young the game is, well likely have a LOT of Colonel 100's 6 months from now.

Thoughts?

My thought was more along the lines of, why not? Considering they were a part of BF2. I'd find it fun to hunt down someone who held a general rank, ya know?

Personally I'd much rather them spend time doing something more useful with their time, like, oh I don't know....

Agreed.

Make it harder to reach highest rank.

Award versatility; Minimum 5 stars in each class. Minimum 1 star each vehicle

Oh sure I would probably never reach it, I just mention it though because there are a BUNCH of Colonel 100's out right now (and I am NOT one of them obviously haha) but I bet you a handful of these 100s could get upgraded if a new few ranks were added, and would add some diversity and special recognition. Plus, as the game goes on, more Colonel 100s will be out there.

That is a pretty neat idea, I don't think DICE will implement it though, but still a cool and fun aidea. Plus more bragging f=rights that some people like.

I would have loved to have been a general in BF2, but I only made it to Lieutenant Colonel. That 400 hours in tanks would have been such a bitch for the Expert Armor medal anyways.

Yeah haha made it to the exact same rank. Glad to see people are generally for it. Like I said, its something that I probably never would reach, that doesn't mean I wouldn't suggest it though. It's just odd they stopped at Colonel and made it so the general ranks that were in BF2, weren't touched, especially considering they have 145 ranks, Im surprised they didn't add these 4 more just to make a few more unique icons. The general ranks really could extend the game a bit for those players who are at that point, which will come in value down the road.

And its been done before, Battlefield 2 only went up to 2nd Lieutenant at first, and then they patched in all of the officer ranks after!

I stopped reading after the first 4 words.

I don't want to spend all my life just to earn a virtual rank, thinking to another game like that, Halo Reach, took ages to level up after hitting the higher levels and eventually got rediculous.

So no thanks, it could be a little harder, but i don't want it so i have to spend around 100h just to hit next rank.

Also, if this was implemented, it should be available to everyone, not just premium.

The 150th rank could be for those with veteran status.
