Same problem here. Flatmate is managing to play & install without error - so annoying.
Clean n sparkling. Most of the time.

here what I do:
1. Copy directx folder at Origin Games/Battlefield 3/__Installer
2. Paste at Origin Games/Battlefield 1942/__Installer

Hopefully, it will works

Nope, still doesn't work. It doesn't give any errors anymore, but I can't play the game as it still says "Install" instead of "Play".

I have a solution:

1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 1942\ __Installer\directx\redist
2. Delete all the contents of the folder except for the following files: DSETUP.dll dsetup32.dll DXSETUP.exe
3. Instal Battlefield 1942 again.

It worked for me, i had the same error as all of you.

For my friend it says: "Error: Restributable package (DirectX) was not installed properly. Setup cannot continue." at exactly 25%.
And for some reason, he doesn't have the 'Battlefield 1942' folder in the 'Origin Games' at all...
