This whole thread is disappointing because no one can fix it and 0 EA support is given.

I might have found a fix guys. First of all set your launcher to run in compatability mode for XP service pack 3. Then go into the videodefault.con located here Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings . Now where it says renderer.setFullScreen change it to 0. This got my game to work after having the error of it closing right after it being opened.

Didn't work for me, following above and also setting resolution to 1280x720.

This worked for me and I am also on Win7x64. Try just changing the fullscreen and leave the resolution.

First you try to open the game, If if it doesnt work this is what you're going to do,
GO TO TASK MANAGER, THEN TO PROCESSES AND FIND THE bc1942.exe or something like that and then kill it.
Open BC1942 again>

This worked for me, I hope this helps everybody> :D

OMG, I got it working !!!

Go to your Program files folder

> Battlefield1942
> Mods
> bf1942
> Settings

You'll see a file called 'VideoDefault' - this is a .con file, right click and open with notebook, you then change the 'renderer.set FullScreen from 1 to 0

This worked for me, good luck guys

I'm not joking. I tried every single thing of this topic. It is the second time I try to install BF1942 and it all seems hopeless again..

Mine locks up the pc as soon as I launch the game :(

Windows 7 64bit

Not tried to fix it yet though. Will try that now :)

EDIT:

Fixed my problem. May not help you guys though :( For me it was due to playing on a TV that didn't support the old school screen resolution. I edited the (1)video.con file to manually set the res to 1920x1080 and then edited the (2)videodefault.con file to allow the extra room for the FOV to 1.33333. I finally set both files to Read Only so the game wouldn't overwrite them.

(1)C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom
(1)C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 1942\Settings\

Excellent. Soved my problem.
