Hey guys, I have been really doubting myself in the last few hours since after installing an Arctic Accelero Extreme 3 cooler on my 6970 I didn't put any heatsinks on the VRMs. I have installed heatsinks on the VRAM modules and the cards three fans cover the entire card so I thought this would be enough to cool everything. Let me know, if there is any danger to my card with no heatsinks on the VRMs and what I should do. Amuse_UK, I wouldn't mind having your personal opinion on this. :)

Kind of hard to do, I have the cooler already installed and I played for 2 hours last night without any hitches, GPU temps were never above 55C. I'll try to get a 6970 PCB picture for you.
Here is a reference 6970 PCB, the one that I have.

Lol, I haven't put heatsinks on any of them. Currently, the only thing cooling them is the 3 fans.

SRS...........................
You have any idea what happens to VRM's when not cooled enough? or overloaded with higher voltage?

Of course you don't HAVE to cover the VRM's, They'll help out if you want to cook food if your cooker dies on you.
OK Seriously, You risk SEVERE heat damage happening to them VRM's which will undoubtedly make any Warranty void outright.
At best you're looking at the chance of your GPU just stop working outright and never working again.
At worst, It COULD cause an electrical fire if the temps get hot enough to melt wires.

OK, I noticed the card was getting unstable after around 6 hours of on time so, when I have the time this week, since I don't game on the week anyway, I will put the VRM heatsinks on. Thanks guys. And yeah, I don't think the card would have blown up or caused a fire because, this thing auto shuts down within 5 degrees of overheating, that's what gave me the sign.
