Okay, so I'm kind of against boot camp tutorials because I dont think proper, professional scenarios can be made that instill these lessons.

Here I've written/compiled a "small/meager" list of advice for BF3 noobs.

Could probably think of a lot more to add if I didn't crash all the time (Exception code "c0000005"), but...

1.) PERKS - Use different perks from your squad
1a. Ammo, Sprint, Suppression, Cover are the top 4 (possibly Grenades over Sprint) (Flak over Ammo if w/ an attentive Support ally)

2.) MAP - Don't be afraid to expand mini map w/ "M" & toggle it about w/ "B" & "N"

3.) COVER - Shoot from cover
3a. Shoot through thin cover (fences, metal/blue sheeting, wood fences)
3b. Don't shoot so close to an opening -- stand a bit back to reduce enemy visibility.

4.) SITUATIONAL AWARENESS - Stay moving, but try to avoid running into the middle of a clusterbomb.
4a. Limit angles of exposure
4b. Consider likely enemy paths
4c. DONT SHOOT if you dont have a TARGET -- you'll show up on the enemy's map as an ORANGE DORITO (or triangle, if you will)
4c. REMEMBER the above, "4c", when in vehicles, too!

5.) TRAPPED IN CONGESTION - Use SMOKE nades via M320 if you're trapped in a choke point & need to progress like in metro
5a. Try to organize a directive to push a certain route in chat -- you may need to spam a bit ("SHIFT + LEFT/RIGHT ARROW" to highlight, "CTRL + C" or "CTRL + X" to copy or cut text, "CTRL + V" to paste).
5b. Don't be afraid to attempt to flank.
5c. M320 LVG rounds can bounce off of walls -- throw a normal grenade to startle, then bounce an M320 LVG!

6.) SO CLOSE, BUT SO FAR AWAY - Throw grenades sometimes n_n
6a. Take advantage of height to reduce grenade timers!
6b. Drop a grenade on the ground or a killed foe if an enemy is chasing you, or if you worry an enemy medic is nearby.

7.) ACCURACY - Shoot burst, wait 250-500 milliseconds for return from recoil, burst again
7a. Practice SNAP TARGET shooting > Shoot 5-10 markers on a wall > Run, & quickly move your reticle to these markers > Try to shoot these markers w/ no bullet deviation/close bullet grouping
7b. Practice leading w/ range shooting as a sniper, tanker, etc
7c. Use your scope
7d. Control your recoil w/ slight backward mouse movement (practice on a wall?)
7e. Shots past 200-300+ meters will req. shooting above your target to compensate for bullet drop!

8.) STABLE CROSS-HAIRS - Mouse sensitivity at 50% or 25%-15% for vehicles
8a. Recommendations are for low sensitivity, mice w/ naturally low sensitivities could benefit from higher (rare?).

9.) OPTIMAL BALLISTICS -
9a. Assault - M416* > AEK-971* > AN-94** > M16** > G3A3
9b. Support - M27IAR > MG36 > QBB-95 <--- high RPM, low DMG best for long range, less bullet deviation
9bII. Support - M240B > PKP Pecheng <--- low RPM, high DMG
9c. Engineer - G36C, A-91 (early unlock) > ACW-R* > MTAR-21**
9d. Recon - M98B (better range?) > L96 > JNG-90 (high mag) <--- bolt-action
9dII. Recon - SKS > M417 > M39 EMR <--- semi-auto DMR (designated marksman rifles)
9e. Pistols - G18 Suppressed (full auto) > MP443 Suppressed (single fire) > 9ER (burst) > MP412 Rex (high power, low RPM) > .44 Magnum (high power, lowest RPM) > M1911 {oops, that's all except the G17C & M9}

10.) ATTACHMENTS - Not all guns can benefit from them, some are already very effective.
10a. Foregrip reduces horizontal (side-to-side) recoil -- long range accuracy is lost.
10b. Flash suppressor reduces vertical (upward) recoil -- reduces hipfire accuracy.
10c. Laser sight increases hipfire accuracy when the laser is on (T) -- makes your location visible.
10d. Heavy barrel increases range & ADS (aim down sight) accuracy -- reduces hipfire accuracy.
10e. Suppressor removes being auto-spotted on the mini-map when firing -- reduces range.

11.) ASSAULT REZ AWARENESS - Make sure likely nearby foes are killed before trying to resurrect allies w/ defribrillators.
11a. You face your killer's direction when rezzed. Be ready to kill with the pistol for faster dispatching.

12.) NOT A MEDIC? - Pick up an Assault class kit nearby (HOLD "R") & rez your downed mate, then pick your kit back up!

13.) CLOSE QUARTERS URGENCY - Use your PISTOL for close, urgent kills when getting revived OR when running out of ammo with your primary, as primary weapon draw/reload delay takes a long time in comparison.
13a. Pistols AREN'T affected by suppression!

14.) AMMO & MED PACKS - Give them
14a. Double-tap 3 to throw a pack quickly!
14b. Drop them on vehicles & they'll stay unless shot!

15.) RECON UTILITY - Plant T-UGS for radar & use your Radio Beacon as a spawn point
15a. Hide them well, out of normal lanes of travel.
15b. Placing your Radio Beacon on open ground, in many maps, lets you or your squad PARACHUTE in!
15c. BRIGHT scope glint shows from any distance, THROUGH SMOKE, if using 6x magnification or more.
15d. Crouch-walk to avoid T-UGS detection. Maybe rarely valuable, but good to know!

16.) AERIAL AGILITY - Bind pitch up/down to a key for jets (I bind them to the relevant mouse movement axes -- but, I'm also probably the worst jet pilot.)
16a. Practice flying w/ your camera angle adjusted -- C -- most/all pros do this.
16b. 300-310 MPH is the optimal speed for tight turning maneuverability -- try to keep this level of locomotion.

17.) BASIC AVIATION - EVASIVE MANEUVERS are A MUST during an enemy's pre-lock rapid beep -- seek out terrain barriers as a helo, or LOOPING & VERY LOW ALTITUDE, semi-downward right/left turning as a jet (or do a HALF LOOP, roll/spin upside-down, then HALF LOOP again, then a normal LOOP, or a tight left or right turn -- 300 MPH is key) -- close distance if you're aware of being tailed as a jet, by a jet, from afar.
17a. For jets, consider Rocket Pods (Heatseekers if dealing w/ air-to-air), Stealth, & Flares (use post-fire -- louder, faster, rapid beep)
17b. ECM Jammer (use pre-lock {rapid beep} or pre-fire during a lock on -- also hides you from Air Radar ) or Extinguisher (possibly for Air Superiority) may also be good.
17c. Lock on = flat, sustained tone
17d. For helis, consider Stealth (or Guided if you think it makes a difference), Flares, & Heatseekers
17e. For heli gunners, consider Autoloader (or Stealth if you think it makes a difference), Thermal Optics, & TV Guided Missile (or Guided Missile if you suck w/ the TVG, or if you have SOFLAM aid)
17f. Practice with the TV Guided Missile
17g. GUNNING in the HELICOPTER -- be ALERT! Shoot at far away OPFOR! Shoot at armor! THIRST FOR BLOOD!
17h. Shoot one AA (air-to-air) missile to tempt foe's defenses (flares/ECM jammer) -- then quickly re-lock & shoot the last missile before their recharge! Finish them w/ your cannon.
17i. Jet cannon shots may need to lead your target if taken from afar, or during steep turning or loops.
17j. ALL CANNONS may be best BURST-FIRED to avoid overheating -- BUT, strategic full overheating during perfect line-up can be fine, if needed!
17k. Sweep your cross-hairs across infantry multiple times in 1 strafe, if needed.
17l. As a jet, strike helicopters from above -- roll/spin so you're sideways for turning, but shoot helicopters along their length axis so moving up/down can garner you more shots instead of shooting it straight on, where you might move your cross-hairs side to side & therein lose shots.

18.) PARACHUTES - Press S to slow your descent
18a. Pressing W to speed up, AFTER pressing S to slow down (for a couple moments), WILL speed your descent RAPILY.

19.) TRANSPORT VEHICLES - Wait for nearby passengers, honk your horn, or drive near them & hover or move back & forth.
19a. 2+ is better than one.

20.) ARMOR - Use buildings/environment for cover as a vehicle
20a. Press 2 to use secondary fire in between primary fire reload.
20b. Try to ensure you have an Engineer buddy
20c. HMG is better than LMG in tanks? (I use LMG)
20d. Use SMOKE -- "X" -- to break lock-ons & retreat if caught off-guard by enemy armor or infantry.
20e. Front is the strongest, side the 2nd strongest, back is the weakest.
20f. Shooting armor at an angle reduces shell strength...avoid "V" angles, aim for perpendicular "T" shots.
20g. Reactive Armor is a vital unlock! If lost, it replenishes once you repair your vehicle.
20h. Change CAMERA ANGLE with "C" to gain greater perspective, if needed!
20i. DON'T be afraid to steal enemy armor if they bail out! This can turn the tide of a match!
20j. Don't be afraid to steal enemy vehicles, in general! Your team may gain an "unfair" advantage!
20k. Armor sprint -- "SHIFT" -- works in reverese, too!
20l. F1-F6+ to change seats

21.) REPAIR - Repair in bursts of 7-10 seconds to keep your torch from overheating.
21a. Hopping out occurs on the side you were looking -- if you're a passenger looking to repair, look away from the foe before exit!
21b. You can kill enemies & tanks with the torch & the EOD bot's torch, as well (burning the face increases DMG) -- also, with Assault defribrillators!
21c. Crouching when killing enemy vehicles with your torch may reduce risk of death.
21d. You can destroy fences with the repair tool, too!

...^__PT 2 continued__^...

22.) MINES - Try to plant them IN GROUPS OF THREE disguised as 1, at the crest of a hill, in the shadows, under rubble, or on blackened earth as opposed to the middle of the road
22a. Hide mines/claymores/C4 with supply crates/ammo packs.
22b. Place your mines alongside enemy mines!
22c. Ambush! Place mines in an advance pathway, shoot, then retreat!

23.) C4 EXPLOSIVES - Place C4 high to increase range & limit risk of destruction by other explosives.
23a. Frag rounds in shotguns can be used for quick C4 dispatch! In congested close quarters, or just to confuse your enemy (kills show up as shotgun weapon type)!
23b. Kamikazi jihad! Put C4 on the front of a mobile transport, jump out & sacrifice your virtual lovechild!
24c. C4 may also fit in empty enemy vehicles!

24.) SPOT - Spot people w/ "Q"
24a. Can spot through smoke!
24b. Spot explosives with "Q", as well!
24c. Spotting can be done w/ the EOD bot, too!
24d. Spot while in aerial vehicles, or any vehicles!

25.) MCOM OBJECTIVES -
25a. Can be armed w/ an Engineer's EOD Bot.

26.) Rambo Assignment: Multi-kills (4+ kills w/in .8 seconds) -
26a. Ziba Tower Conquest Domination, C4 near flags (C flag?)
26b. Operation 925 C4 on B flag
26c. M320 smoke Assault buddy + C4 with shotgun frags (frags explode c4) on Operation Metro
26d. regular M320 regular on Operation Metro? success maybe rare here
26e. Javelin/C4 on enemy LAVs on rush Noshahr Canals or Kharg Island (bail out of jet over carrier or shoot Javelin off docks/shore)
26f. armor w/ guided shells + CITV station on Operation Firestorm or Noshahr Canals (transport helicopters)
26g. mortaring Rush on Grand Bazaar
26h. C4ing 1st or 2nd MCOMs as a defender in Rush on Grand Bazaar (or defending MCOMs on Rush, in general)
26i. C4ing 1st MCOMs as a defender in Rush on Tehran Highway (or defending MCOMs on Rush, in general)
26j. C4ing in TDM on Noshahr Canals (I used this method) or Kiasar Railroad

Press '2' as Amtrak gunner for machine gun, in mortar for smoke or 4th seat in scout choppers for laser designator.

Press 'm' for large map in mobile artillery to see where your rounds are landing.

Wait for passengers if you are in a vehicle (except transport chopper which can be spawned on).

Place C4 off the ground on walls/roofs etc. to avoid having them cleared by grenades.

ECM is for avoiding a lock (fire pre-lock), flares are for avoiding missiles (fire post-launch).

The EOD bot can arm and disarm MCOMs.

You can spawn on squad mates in the deployment menu but watch what's going on before you do as you don't want to spawn in front of a wall of bullets.

If you don't move you have 2 seconds of spawn protection, use it wisely.

That box thingy that supports carry can actually be dropped to supply your team (and theirs) with ammo... USE IT!!! (Reaffirming point 11 because its needed)

thanks local BF3 3:1 K:D ratio profeshineal

i just crash a lot due to some "c0000005" exception offset/fault, dunno how to fix it, think id have to buy a new MOBO/RAM cause my MOBO sucks or something

i get in a good streak of 3:1 - 2:1 K:D ratio pwnzirra-ing & then i crash & lose my mojo =[

very sadface-ful, ye?

i'm also just a nooblet at times... n_n"... ... ~_~...

good reminder on waiting for passengers! will add that

also knew of the EOD for arming MCOMs, will add that as well!

& heard that it's best to place C4 high for maximum range, will also...add that! n_n

& will add the notation to ECM

for lock-ons, is the pre-fire the fast-beeping, & the post-fire the sustained tone, or is it the opposite? ;p

Beeps while locking (ECM), solid tone when locked and higher pitched faster beeping when missile incoming (flares)... I think... lol funny how its hazy when your not in game ;)

This thread is full of great stuff;

Grrizz said:

There's a little more to it than that. Flares are very simple, deploy them and any missiles already in flight toward you as well as any missiles fired for about 2 seconds after will miss. Only exceptions I've noticed is if the person firing at you is very close, like your flying 10ft over someone and they shoot a stinger. Or if you wait until the missile is too close before deploying, there's a good chance you'll still take a hit.

ECM's are a little more complicated. They break impending locks and confuse incoming missiles. So you actually can deploy your ECM while a missile is en-route, which causes the missile to circle around you until your chafe wears off and it finally hits you, unless you use terrain or other obstacles to cause the missile to splash down ineffectively.

Xietsusaid:
HMG is better than LMG in tanks

Not necessarily. HMG is better at long to medium range, just burst fire to control the recoil. LMG is better for close range, no burst firing required.

Honestly, ECM is way better as long as you know how to use it. Only time you really need flares is if you're getting locked by a SOFLAM/CITV. ECM will break the initial lock but once the javelin or guided missile is in the air, you're toast. Only flares can effectively break a laser locked missile.

someone mustve timed the exact timeframe of protection ECM provides by now! O_O

ECM is for avoiding a lock (fire pre-lock), flares are for avoiding missiles (fire post-launch).
will compile some points from that thread into mine in a bit, gotta eaaaat x_x

good ones in there, indeed

& ECM sounds obnoxious x_x mostly using flares here...but too sh177y a pilot for that to matter :D

Yea flares are a bit more straight forward then ECM, the best way to learn how they work IMO is run engineer with stinger/igla because it gives you a chance to see how the missile actually behaves and how the timings work, how speed (ie jets) affects them and ground clearance, I particularly found Kharg a good map to practice on. But as hobophobic points out nether are as clean cut as my one liner suggests but keeping that mentality will get you out of most troublesome situations and you can build from there. I always run ECM though because once you do know how to use it, it almost always trumps flares.

Oh and the gunship having a set of flares for each seat is something I feel a lot of people don't know? or at least the ones I get stuck with ;P

Just one (well two) If you hop in a tank DON'T shoot just for the sake of shooting, you are a permanent target for everyone. Also, don't bother shooting at the enemy tank with the machine gun, just get out and repair. That gun does next to nothing to armor.

lol yup, its like the EOD or MAV once placed you can move around, enter it, leave it, move around, re-enter etc with the exception of if you get resupplied then you can only place a new one (destroying the old) which is a bit of a flaw IMO coz particularly if your team playing you'll have a engi with JAV and support with ammo re-arming him and... you... so often I find you have to hide while using it so people don't come along and resupply you preventing you from relocating and reconnecting :(

Even more of a PITA is if you want to place one where a ammo box is you have to destroy the ammo box so you can place it then enter it or else you get a new one as soon as you place the old one preventing you from controlling it! (unless your really quick)

Oh and for jets your tightest turning circle is when you're traveling in the 300-310 (insert units of speed here) range.

Yeah, it will automatically paint anything in the direction it's pointing, but it is usually much more effective to control manually so you can prioritize higher value targets. Whatever you do though, don't just plop it down and go prone two feet behind the thing. Sniper gadgets are lockable, so you'll get killed by the blast if someone fires a jav at it.

- re-establish a lock with a soflam - javelin to ensure your javelin hits its target even if smoke - flares are deployed
- moving in high powered scope will cause your crosshairs to offset - the bullet will not go to your centre crosshairs but to where the centre crosshairs would be, pay attention to this.

is this point on javelin re-locking after firing valid for superceding flares/smoke?

someone said it isnt (valid)...i added it, but i think i should remove it O_o

& the point on high powered scoping affecting cross-hairs is a bit murky, as well...

...does high powered scoping really cause a reticle offset? when is it fixed...? w8 wot...?

1.) PERKS - Use different perks from your squad
1a. Ammo, Sprint, Suppression, Cover are the top 4 (possibly Grenades over Sprint)

Not possibly grenade over sprint. Sprint is the most importand perk with ammo!

just wanted to make that clear ;)
