The javelin is now a weapon that requires you to keep aiming at the target for the missle to hit.
Me gusta.

The javelin according to the BF4 description does less damage than the RPG
If this is true, No me gusta

However I doubt this is true because Im watching gameplay of a guy on an attack boat get it by a Javelin. It took it down to like 57% If the Javelin is weaker than the RPG then we are gonna have some OP RPGs but AGAIN I doubt a 127mm HEAT Tandem charge smart missile will do less damage than some rink a dink 50 year old 85mm launcher
So I See a missle damage system similar to BF3 which I believe is good.

I do believe in balance but the balance is the Javelin is way less versatile than the Smaw or the RPG.

Javelin: Guided, does more damage but limited to ground targets with exception of designated air.

RPG/smaw No limits. shoot at everything and anything
I really hope the Javelin isnt op but I hope its balanced. I think it should be a 2 hit disable/Mobility hit (new disable mechanic) and not a 1 hit

Holy crap.

I think the Jav should be allowed to lock on to ground (with the splash of say a grenade, against infantry) to give it something special.

but the jav still does all the aiming for you, it's as weak as it should be.

Use SRAW for more damage.

the fact that every(i think) launcher is some lock on or guided projectile in bf4 is stupid. why does dice feel the need to dumb down everything for the shitty players

That was a rigged test.

1. That is a Iraqi Asad Babil. A horrible down grade of the Saddam which was a knockoff of the T-72M. Which was a deliberately inferior and downgraded T-72A.

2. Even if the test was or was not rigged, a regular T-72 would not disintegrate. The turret might come off but both the hull and the turret would be intact. (The Asad Babil was made of Mild Steel)

It is not a representative test of a Javalin.

As for balancing. It should be powerful fire and forget weapon able to lock on to both air and ground targets. But you should only carry one shot.

RPG-7s and SMAW rockets should move at their actual real muzzle velocities and have optional optical sights like the PGO-7V sight.

MANPADS should have about a 1000 meter range, but only carry a few shots and have no lock on reticle. Only the Audio tone.

It might be weaker than RPGs, but will probably do more damage to laser designated targets than RPGs (due to the top-down attack nature of Javelins when laser guided).

But I'm fine with it. There will be situations that it's better used, and other situations that other launchers are better. Siege will probably be better suited for RPGs, where-as Goldmud will be better suited for Javelins.

And remember, it said it was weaker, but not SEVERELY weaker. Footage has proven that Javelins still pack quite a punch on vehicles.

Would be nice if they maybe made it so Javelins could lock onto deployed hand flares so it could strike an area instead of just vehicles.

A single javelin shot will not disintegrate a T-72 even if it is fully loaded and fueled up. Combination of rigging and using a inferior tank is what resulted with that.

They're balancing launchers based on ease of use vs. damage in BF4.

If I remember correctly, it's MBT-LAW < Javelin < SRAW < SMAW < RPG.

Further left is easier to use, but does less damage. The SMAW will have a completely flat trajectory, hence it doing less damage than the RPG, which will have the normal arched trajectory. LAW locks onto anything nearby at all pretty much, Jav requires you to maintain the lock, SRAW is wire-guided by the player.

Me, I'll probably be a SRAW guy, just like the good ol' AT4.

They filled the tank with ammo to simulate a tank with a full load. So the main explosion is the tank's ammo not the missile.

Here are some more realistic hits.

That idea with the flares actually sound like a good idea to me. I don't know what flares are supposed to do in the game by themselves, but it would be cool to have a flare to lock on, so they both had a purpose, and you could make some booby-trap style gameplay (or flush out a vehicle or infantry that are heavily defended)
