This is the first test. There will be bugs, but it already plays very nicely!

We're talking about a SERVER SIMULATION RATE = TICKRATE of 120 Hz. The Client <-> Server Update rates are at 120 Hz as well (if you can get 120 FPS).

Explanation by Battlenonsense (no 120 or 60 Hz gameplay yet): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34N7hoemeiI&hd=1 [youtube.com]

CTE Servers:

120 Hz US squad obli: http://cte.battlelog.com/bf4/servers/show/pc/7a23171d-2569-405c-808f-39a9a0028015/OFFICIAL-SQ-OBL-CTE-US-293951/ [cte.battlelog.com]

60 Hz NL TDM/Dom: http://cte.battlelog.com/bf4/servers/show/pc/fa9999e1-d504-454a-8071-18715b9ad2b9/OFFICIAL-DOM-TDM-CTE-NL-293943/ [cte.battlelog.com]

It's not possible to run 60Hz (don't dream of 120Hz) on 64 player servers at the moment. But DICE LA will try to make it happen! The Client-Server and Server-Client rates are also at those high values if your PC can handle it (if you get enough (60/120) FPS).

Network usage on full 32p 60Hz server: 180 kbit/s download ----- 120 kbit/s upload

A BIG HOOAH for DICE LA and VISCERAL

This day is when it started!

Do not confuse simulation rate with tickrate.

Simulation rate has always been 30Hz.

The updates you send to the server are now based on your FPS.

You still receive updates at a max of 30Hz.

THIS SERVER RUNS ON A SIMULATION RATE OF 120 Hz!

I edited my first post to make sure everyone (especially those guys who don't look on the picture) will get that.

Okay before anyone go saying yay 120hz this is not a native 120hz this 60 ny 60 and the client will only process 30 hz in other words the packet processing is much faster on the server side if and only if the optimal connection is in action, so expect only 20% improvement.
What a filthy causal.

In the middle of the image you provided he says 60Hz Native. Still, nice improvement.

The squad obliteration server runs at ALL 120Hz - EVERYTHING THERE is at 120Hz IF your PC can get 120FPS.
The TDM/DOM server runs at ALL 60 Hz - EVERYTHING THERE is at 60 Hz!

THIS IS THE DAY EVERYONE WAITED FOR SINCE THE RELEASE. It's a BIG deal.

Ohh, that's nice from them, but i doubt it'll ever go live.

Server contracts have already been stipulated, and changing at this stage of the iteration would without doubt cost money.

People really still have 60hz monitors? With the hardware that is available today?

Gonna jump on later after some dayz ;)

So how is this gonna work? The increased processing requirements? Is it going to be offloaded to the server or on the client? Because it sounds like a no win situation.

Pay extra, get 60Hz, your server will get famous.
No extra, get 30Hz, everyone will complain, your server will sink.

Make 60Hz standard, everyone will complain because of extra monies.

Funny how CS has a tick rate of 100Hz and the game is a fan made mod from 1999.

Meanwhile at DICE with half a billion dollar operating budget can't even properly implement 60Hz.

CS default tickrate is at 66hz. tho you could change the tickrate with a server config file.

Anyways it is interesting to see that they are experiementing with 120hz and 60hz tickrate. But we might be looking at 2x or even 4x the bandwidth required. Which we already are at roughly 800 kilobytes per second. So with 120hz, it might be bogging down people's bandwidth since many places in the US and in Canada and around the world still are at 25 Mbits (3-4 Mbytes) for download.

180kbits down and 120kbits up for 60hz. Probably double that on 120hz. Our clients are barely doing any work.
