Hi Guys,

Sorry, I'm a total beginner when it comes to PC gaming, having been out of the scene for a good few years. I just put together a new PC for BF3 and I can only play for 20 mins max before it chucks me out with an 0xc0000005 Exception. I have searched the forum for a bit, I have repaired the install of BF3, updated BIOS / Drivers / changed IE to Software Rendering etc.. but it still happens.

Faulting application name: bf3.exe, version: 1.6.0.0, time stamp: 0x511c9356
Faulting module name: bf3.exe, version: 1.6.0.0, time stamp: 0x511c9356

Faulting process id: 0x17f8
Faulting application start time: 0x01ce1a993ec05059
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3\bf3.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3\bf3.exe

Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

I have:

Intel i7 3770k
ASUS P8Z77 Pro Mainboard
8GB Hyperx DDR3 Memory
AMD 7970HD Video
Realtek HD Audio (could this be the culprit?)
Single SATA HDD

If anyone can help point me in the right direction that would be cool, as I just dropped a lot of cash on this setup to play BF3 and am a bit gutted!

Cheers

David

What version of windows are you running? .......Check your harddrive to see if you are running low on space on the windows partition as well as the games installation partition. Open task manager and shutdown anything not needed to be run whilst you are playing the game. Try turning off anti virus software as well whilst you are running the game. Also manually update punkbuster by going to http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support.php [evenbalance.com] and downloading pbsetup add bf3 and manually update.

Thanks Crix much appreciated.

Should have said, Windows 8 Pro 64bit is my OS.

I have around 600GB free on my OS partition. Will try disabling AV and stopping any other running applications or processes, se if that helps.

I have manually updated Punk Buster using pbsetup, and the game ran for around 40 mins after that so I figured I might have cracked it, then it booted me back to the desktop again.

are you getting a blue screen or is your computer only not responding to any order you give ( freezing)

do you get normal crash back to window or game still run but without grafik or sound , or sound only with no grafik????

before you ask these questions i may have something to add

windows 8 is known as a non stable operating system for games and gaming especially with games that require hight sources such as BF3,Assassins Creed 3 and other new generations

windows 8 sucks too much memory and you have 8 GB memory , this is good enough for any high end game but this could be your problem , the leaked memories with the memories needed for operating system and the BF3 game excceed the 8GB you have.

adding more memory to your system is not a solution and my first advice to you is go to windows 7 64 BIT if you want to gaming
I am so serious,Imperious,Need I demand your attention

Yea i'd have to agree it could be windows 8 causing problems. If possible try and run on windows 7.

Thanks again guys, I think I agree that Windows 7 downgrade rights might be my best bet now.. I have disabled everything non-essential from running. Memtested my memory and stopped my AV.

Just to answer the questions above, I get dropped to the desktop each time, the game freezes, sound judders and then back to Windows. I can then read the event viewer to identify the crash notes I posted earlier.

You can also try and click your BF3 shorcut on desktop right click it go to properties, then compability, then check run this program in compatibility mode. then arrow down to like windows xp or windows 7 whatever.

Interesting thing, I just played a solid couple of games after changing the BIOS setting on my ASUS P8Z77-M Pro from high performance back to normal in the easy config screen. - No crashes, lets see if this good run continues!

You have a memory problem, change priority for BF3 to high in processes and see what it does.

this

And run memtest on your RAM.

By the way: MANY others are running games on Windows 8 just fine with no problems. Take whatever anyone tells you negatively about Windows 8 with a grain of salt.

EDIT: I just saw that you changed your bios from Performance to Normal. Performance mode will overclock your RAM. That is most likely your problem. I would still run memtest on your ram.
What do I put here?

overclocked RAm will not crash the game...unless theres an instability issue somewhere else ...
