Hi all!

This is the 2nd sticky all dedicated to the Battlefield 4 Commander App. You can find the old one right HERE [battlelog.battlefield.com].

We decided to create a new thread since the old one was just about to reach 100 pages, and we want to make sure that we catch all the feedback on the new version. We at the DICE mobile team are proud to announce that the 2.0.0 version of the commander app is populating the Apple App Store and Google play throughout the world RIGHT NOW.

I want to point out that the DICE mobile team is not the same one working on the Battlelog app, so if you have any questions or comments on that one - please post it in the Battlelog forum thread.

We have listened a lot to all of your feedback here on the forums on the Commander app, and we are very thankful for all your comments and ideas.
Here are some of the updates that we think will help you become the greatest Commander you can be:
• Squad Member Visibility. You will now be able to see the player names and kits of players in a squad when it is selected
• VOIP visibility. You will now be able to tell which player in a squad is talking to you through VOIP
• Issuing orders to a squad now shows the position of all squad members while you are dragging out the order
• You can now drop squad assets (such as promotions) directly on the squad list
• If you have an XP boost active, the scoring for this will now be more visible in the UI
• Lots of bug fixes and stability improvements

A more detailed changelog can be found on the bottom of this post. Note that you will be required to update to this latest version in order to be able to play on the latest Battlefield 4 server updates that are being released.

Just as the previous thread I'll take the opportunity to introduce two of the persons from the DICE mobile team who you will se around in this thread. Introduction of devs:

Dan aka Ohplz
Development Director on the DICE mobile team. Fond of flying any kind of chopper, even though he isn’t particularly good at it.

Erik aka TheHelgon
Lead Designer on the DICE mobile team. Usually sitting on a hill far away pointing a sniper rifle in your general direction. Wishes he was as good at flying as Dan.

You can find answers to a few questions below, but don’t hesitate to ask us your own. We’ll do our best to answer them. Thanks for playing!

Q: On which tablets can I play Commander?
A: For iOS, Commander works on iPad 2 and up, as well as iPad Mini, on tablets running iOS 6.1 and up. For Android, we have set the following minimum specs:
Screen sizes 7” and up
1ghz dual core
1024mb ram
1024x600 resolution
Android 4.0.3 or newer
Access to the Google Play store

Q: Where can I find the Commander app?
A: iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id736832929?ls=1&mt=8 [itunes.apple.com]
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ea.game.warsawcommander_row [play.google.com]

Q: I play Battlefield 4 on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Can I still play Commander on tablet?
A: Absolutely! The Commander app works with any platform you can run Battlefield 4 on.

Q: How do I select a specific server to join?
A: You can select specific servers to join through the Battlelog app. Simply go into Multiplayer, select a server, and join using the “Commander” button. This will automatically launch the Commander app and join the server.

Q: How can I use VOIP to talk to the members on my team?
A: Select the squad you want to talk to, then press and hold the VOIP button on the bottom right to talk to the squad. We recommend using a headset for the best VOIP experience. VOIP is currently supported on PC and Playstation 4.

Q: What about VOIP on XBOX One?
A: This will hopefully arrive very soon.

Q: As a PC player, can I see team chat?
A: Yes! You will be able to see all chat, team chat and the selected squad’s chat.

Q: Does the app work over both 3G and WiFi?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I play as a commander on my tablet while playing as a soldier on my console/PC?
A: We want players to be fully committed when playing, you will only be able to be logged in on either the tablet or system of choice.

Q: I own BF4 on two or more systems, how do I choose which one to connect to on my tablet?
A: When you first login, you will be prompted to choose one of your active soldiers. After that, you can easily switch between them in the settings menu.

Q: Will you release tablet commander for mobile phones or windows tablets?
A: Currently we have no such plans.

Thanks for the update. Looks like some great new features and fixes. Is anything in progress on making the leadership ribbon requirements a bit more realistic with the lack of players accepting orders?

How about auto accept if the SL order is on the same objective as the commanders?

We know that it is hard to get the leadership ribbon as this is a result of SL not accepting orders. This is something that is being looked into. We are probably looking at a SL reminder that he/she has a pending order.

Really looking forward to playing Commander on Naval Strike DLC, the leadership ribbon is very frustratingly hard to get at the moment. Looking forward to further additions on this mode. Keep up the good work :D

A reminder? Ha! Give the commander these 2 options:

1. An "aggressive order" where the text is bigger, in red, and the volume of the voice over is doubled, and much more angry sounding, maybe male instead of female. Words to the effect of "It is VITAL that you move to this objective" (can only be issued to a SL who has ignored at least 3 previous orders at least 30 secs apart)

2. Demote SL. (only useable on a SL who has ignored 2 or more "aggressive orders" (so ignored 8 orders in a 4 minute period) should advise the squad that "SL has been demoted for incompetance")

Nice idea. Permanent txt would be good. I know even as a player who accepts all orders (even flying jets) it can be very easy to miss them, permanent txt would solve this.

Thanks for the feedback in this issue OhPlz.

Great improvement guys, well done. Just a minor point, the vertical bar next to the squad letter on the right side, is this squad field upgrades? As despite promoting the same squad several times their bar never rose any higher.

Thanks, OhPlz.. Looking forward to trying it tonight.

@Ewok: it was 7 to the medal (now 4...). The dogtag is not something I'll chase with any effort unless they change the ribbon requirements or otherwise improve the order mechanics to increase the yield for acceptances.

@OhPlz: you should let folks at DICE know that the 10 orders accepted for the leadership ribbon is completely out of whack with other ribbon requirements, even with the kind of mechanics change that you suggest. It should be 5. A requirement as high as 10 detracts from game play by forcing Commanders to spam orders with the hopes of having some accepted, instead of giving them out strategically. It also encourages boosting -- if the only way you can reliably get the ribbon is by playing with folks on your FL, what is to stop you from spamming orders to your friends and having them accept them for no other reason other than helping you get the ribbon?

Installed the update to an Android tablet.

Now I don't see the enemy missile track i.e. cannot see where it will hit. Just see the warhead and then its sometimes too late to use the EMP to destroy it and certainly cannot warn the team where it will impact.
Anyone else seeing that?

Also when playing conquest the time counter is not working (was not working earlier either). just shows 00:00.

Otherwise nice improvements.

Hi,

The missle track has been removed to reflect the change in the main game. It was removed to add some skill to where the opposing commander should place his/her EMP.

The counter will be fixed serverside soon (no app update required).

Happy to hear that you like the improvements!

It actually works on mobile phones. I have been using it on my HTC Desire 601 for a while. You just need to use Market Helper in order to download apps on Google Play you shouldn't be able to by default.

hummm... I don't know if it's good. Sounds bad to me. Is someone with me on this ?

In my opinion, it should be at least 3 or 5 seconds on the screen, then after, goes away!

Sounds good, it's very hard to get one onto targets with the line showing where it will go.

I am still unable to use the commander app to play, as it sticks on the loading screen. I have to go through Battlelog still. It also sticks on the loading screen when I leave a game. I have deleted the app and reinstalled v2.0, but it still does it. Any ideas how to fix this?
Running on a iPad2 64gb with latest iOS.

Do us all a favor and get rid of commander. I like to run with a suppressor to stay off the mini-map sometimes and dorks on a tablet shouldn't impact my ability to enjoy the ACTUAL GAME.

Make it so that UAV can't spot people in buildings so they stay off the mini-map.

Make it so that they need to use significantly more points to spot players with a suppressor or just get rid of that ability completely.

Make it so that stuff like gunships and cruise missles can't be deployed unless there are TWO commanders on a server.

There are way too many absurd things with this mode.
