Of course, the DICE studios will continue to improve the Battlefield 4 experience going forward.
We’ve seen many new players hit the Battlefield recently – and we’d like to heartily welcome you all! If you’re a newbie, we’ll let you try out Battlefield 4 for free** through Origin Game Time and teach you the ropes in a series of articles. We’re not forgetting about you veterans though. History of the Assault in Battlefield
Last up in our BF4 Class Weeks is none other than the legendary Assault class, which has seen quite a few changes over the years. Read on for its complete history!
Battlefield 1942
One of five kits available to Battlefield 1942 players, the Assault was the go-to class when engaging enemy infantry. Back then, it was all about wielding the firepower of automatic rifles and light machine guns, staying close to the action in the fight between Axis and Allies. 12 years ago, the Assault didn’t have any fancy equipment or healing duties – other classes took care of that.
Battlefield 2
In the modern-day setting of Battlefield 2, the Assault class was still a general-purpose choice for medium-range combat, but it still evolved thanks to additions to the arsenal. For instance, the class gained access to the Underslung Grenade Launcher, a powerful piece of military hardware, and Assault players could also withstand an extra beating thanks to the body armor.
Battlefield 2142
Remember when Defibrillators were single-handed? The future is sweet. As the number of classes was trimmed down to four in Battlefield 2142, the abilities of Battlefield 2’s Assault and Medic merged, giving birth to a new kind of Assault kit. This challenged us to focus both on being an assault rifle badass (made easier with rocket and shotgun add-ons), as well as healing and reviving team mates.
Battlefield: Bad Company
With the added destruction and chaos introduced in Battlefield: Bad Company, we had a lot of fun with both assault rifles and grenade launchers (although Demolition guys were of course even more explosive) when playing Assault. The convenient LIFE-2 gadget, an auto-injector that restored the Assault player’s health, is also memorable. Other than that, the Assault class was the spear-head of the squad, throwing themselves into the all-out war.
Battlefield 4
Jumping ahead to the present and Battlefield 4, the current incarnation of the Assault is a versatile class – not to mention an excellent choice for those just starting out with the game. The healing capabilities have evolved and the Battlefield 4 Assault has access to both a Medic Bag and the smaller First Aid Pack that can be thrown further. Again, the class is crucial for playing the objective and making sure the team stays alive.

Taking Care of Business and Bruises
Even though every Battlefield class brings something unique to your squad’s efforts, the Assault class is truly a personification of team play. Think of all the times you’ve been boiling of anger after a sudden death – and then regaining your fighting spirit thanks to a timely revive. Or those narrow escapes into cover with 3% health left when you notice a Medic Bag on the ground. An Assault doing its job can’t be overvalued.
Playing as Assault is not just tending to field medic duties, though. With the wide variety of assault rifles and grenade launchers a successful Assault needs to be out there, leading the charge towards Control Points or M-COM Stations, remaining cool in the heat of battle. Creating shortcuts by blasting holes in walls with the grenade launchers or blinding the enemy by smoke should also be on the repertoire.
Community Mission: Make 25 Million Revives
The in-game challenge for this Class Week is truly one dedicated to team work. In a new Community Mission designed for the Assault class we want you to collectively make 25 million revives. Charge up the Defibs, and keep the hearts of your team mates beating. We depend on you!
This mission is active between October 28, 9AM PDT and November 4, 2AM PDT. If you reach the goal in time, we’ll award you with a wallpaper artwork featuring the Assault class*. The wallpaper will be posted on the Battlefield blog for download after the mission is completed.
Assault Shortcut Kit Sale
For those who are new to the Battlefield, or perhaps have been away from it for a while, the Shortcut Kits are a handy way of catching up by unlocking all guns and gadgets. In honor of the Assault Week, you can get a 30% discount on the Assault Shortcut Kit** between October 28, 2014 and November 3, 2014. Head to the Battlelog store to check it out.
Top 4 Assault Pro Tips
Reviving and Timing
Instinct may tell you to immediately move towards the revive icons above the heads of your near-dead team members. But as any good Assault player knows, a brief second of risk assessment is needed before you do a wild dash, defibs in hand, resulting in you getting mowed down by the very same enemy that just killed your buddy. So: before any revive, check the surrounding areas, see if your downed friend is lying behind cover, and make a quick decision.
Become a Shotgun master
The M26 MASS is a weapon unique to the Assault class, and is very handy for close quarter combat. Once you’ve unlocked it, you have a superb complimentary weapon to your main assault rifle. Experiment with the different kinds of rounds, find what range they fit for, and practice your aim to make every shot count.
First Aid Pack or Medic Bag?
Everything is a matter of taste, but there are some things to keep in mind if you’re choosing between the two health-restoring gadgets of the Assault class. The First Aid Pack is single-use but can be thrown longer, which can be an advantage on larger maps. On smaller maps, where players often circle around the same hotspots, the family-sized Medic Bag could work better. Whatever you choose, locate critical parts of the map that need your goodies, and be generous!
Rack up Those Points
You have a lot of opportunities to score points when playing as Assault – if you do it right. Apart from all the kills you’ll get with your assault rifle, your medic duties will also help to secure the win for the team, and all this earns you sweet XP. Help those who need it, but just so you know: healing and reviving a squad member gives you a point boost…
Thank you for celebrating these four Class Weeks with us! Stay tuned to the Battlefield Blog for more Assault goodies the following days. Remember to revive everyone in sight to ace the community mission, and share your best Assault tips in the comments below.

After consulting with testers from the Battlelog Community, we’ve now made a row of improvements to the Battlelog app for tablets, allowing for an even smoother and informative experience.
As you can see in these screenshots the user interface has been upgraded, making overview and navigation easier. The app has also been optimized for performance, making it faster to change weaponry, check out the Geo Leaderboards, or whatever BF4 business you’re doing on the go.
We’ve also made updates of the Battlelog tablet app a smoother affair, and we will deploy updates of both the mobile and tablet version at the same time. Down the road you can expect even more features rolling out, such as push notifications informing you about Battlefield 4 events or friends joining the game.

That Battlefeel – Five Epic Battlefield Moments
Sometimes they’re unbelievable, sometimes just hilarious. Quite often they’re both. They can be that awkward moment realizing you’re on single fire mode, or when your squad buddy saves your derriere in the nick of time. We call them Battlefeels.
You’ve been constantly adding to the worldwide library of these feels by your incredible videos and screenshots and below you’ll find a handful – there are of course many more out there. So sit back with your favorite beverage and enjoy these prime Battlefeels!
“Pod Zook” – ponylionHD
Many have tried, few have conquered. Pulling off a true Rendezook is not done easily but PonylionHD has mastered this art form, time and time again. After successfully combining the move with a giant prehistoric shark (Rendolodon!), Pony has now applied futuristic equipment to perform the crazy RPG-slinging jump – using a pod in Final Stand.
“C4 is my Bae” – Fahed Abudayyeh
C4 in hand. A dozen foes at the same place. An epic ambush. We can only imagine how Fahed Abudayyeh felt coming across this golden opportunity on Operation Metro. The resulting kill streak crippled the enemy team, made the XP come flooding in, and produced a true Battlefeel. The total kill count? To quote Fahed’s own video description: “I couldn’t count them.“
“Anti-Air Dirtbike” – TheGuruGamer
Teaming up with a buddy and going on a Dirtbike ride feels good enough in its own right. But when Dirtbike magic like this happens, it becomes a Battlefeel for the books. Watch the majestic soaring of TheGuruGamer, the swift mid-air jet takedown, and the ensuing happiness of the duo.
“Warriors – BF4 Machinima” – TheS4tha
Ever felt that you’re inside a movie – but with the key difference that the outcome is in your hands? It’s a feel quite common within Battlefield 4 multiplayer. The cinematic and dynamic qualities of Battlefield 4 is captured beautifully in TheS4tha’s “Warriors”, featuring an intense clash at Hainan Resort. Epic paradropping, a lethal jet fly-by, and an explosive finale are some of the highlights.
“Epic Sax Guy Does Battlefield 4” – REC |Filming platoon|
It comes to us all. That sudden urge to lay down your weapons for a moment, and just bust a move on the Battlefield. What REC |Filming platoon| captures in the clip below is hard to describe in words. Just watch, stomp your feet, and surrender to the madness.
Make sure to share your own Battlefeels with us – whether it’s a video, screen, or story – through the comment section below. Curious about the upcoming Final Stand maps in the first Battlefeel?
