A New Champion was Crowned for the ESL One Battlefield 4 Winter Season
Cologne, Germany was the setting of last weekend’s ESL One Battlefield 4 Winter season finals, where eight teams battled it out for the title of ESL One champion and the lion’s share of the €35,000 prize pool.
A new champion
The weekend was filled with exciting and nail-biting matches, but none were as close as the grand finals between INTZ e-Sports and Epsilon eSports. The two titans went head to head in one of the closest series in Battlefield 4 history. However, after five maps it was Epsilon who claimed the victory and were crowned champions of the ESL One Battlefield 4 Winter season.
The second place curse
INTZ once more fell short of the trophy, losing out to Epsilon in the grand finals, but the team also yet again proved their skill, reaching their third grand final in a row.
- First place: Epsilon eSports
- Second place: INTZ e-Sports
- Third/fourth place: PENTA Sports, InFamouS
- Fifth/sixth place: SYF Gaming, Evolution Gamerz
- Seventh/eighth place: LeiSuRe, ReVo Esport
The end of the winter season finals also marks the end of ESL One Battlefield 4 in 2015. 2015 was an incredible year for Battlefield 4, with over €120,000 given out over the course of three fantastic seasons. It also brought us teams from the Americas as they joined the league and showed their strength.
ESL One tournaments are organized and sponsored by Turtle Entertainment GmbH. Information on tournament rules and setup can be found at Battlefield.ESL.eu and ESL-one.com/Battlefield.
Dragon Valley 2015 Survival Guide
With Battlefield 4 Legacy Operations, we set out to create a modernized version of the original Dragon Valley map from Battlefield 2, both visually and gameplay alike. In Dragon Valley 2015, this translates into one of our biggest maps in the game – with a heavy focus on vehicles.
Dragon Valley 2015 features 8 flags, more than any other Battlefield 4 map. This creates unique gameplay, and captures the pacing and gameplay of the original map. It’s a big map, and you tend to commit to an area of the map per round.
Here are some examples of favorite focus areas and pastimes of the dev team on Dragon Valley 2015.
GO ISLAND HOPPING
The most obvious focus of all is to commit to holding the infantry heavy island, featuring the Hilltop Pagoda and the Temple flags. There are several good spots to hide a spawn beacon for quick insertion behind enemy lines to make sure you keep these flags blue. Make sure you have some anti-air and anti-tank support to make sure you can handle the vehicles that are bound to arrive at some point…
BECOME A VEHICULAR MONSTER
Dragon Valley 2015 is built around vehicle play. If you are the best Tanker, Attack helicopter pilot, or Jet pilot, you will have so many things to try. The destructible bridges add a dimension to the vehicle play, and you’ll find yourself constantly finding new nooks to utilize to your advantage. We hope you will love playing vehicles on Dragon Valley 2015 as much as we do!
JUMP ABOARD THE FLAG CAP EXPRESS
Any veteran of the Battlefield series knows the older map layouts feature a lot of capture points. The original Dragon Valley had a total of 10 flags for instance! This amount of flags allows your squad to focus on capturing as many flags as possible. You travel to potential points using fast transports, capture them, but there is little time to stay and defend – you are constantly on the offensive. This might not be one of the most effective tactics, but it’s loads of fun!
LOCK DOWN THE HILL VILLAGE
Playing as the US, focusing efforts on D flag (Hill Village), and playing a guerilla kind of game is a lot of fun! Start by assembling your squad, make sure you bring a spawn beacon and an engineer or two. Place the spawn beacon in a smart position fairly close to the flag, but far enough to not be obvious, and start locking down the access road to the east side of the river. Your mission is stopping all tanks from reaching the Island!
TAKE A TDM WARMUP
Team Death Match is a great warm up for many, and Dragon Valley 2015 features one of the best warmup layouts of Battlefield, inspired by Noshahr Canals. Hop into a game of TDM to dial in your aiming before you go for that epic Conquest session with your friends.
CAP QUICKLY, CAP OFTEN
As the Chinese team, focusing on quickly capturing and trying to hold the A (River Valley) and B (Pagoda) flags is a viable (and fun) tactic. To increase your chances of success, make sure you grab the IFV at F (Wood Yard), or bring a tank with you to long range support the defense. Expect heavy resistance, especially from heavy vehicles like tanks and attack helicopters.
Those are some of the dev-team’s favorite playstyles and tactics… but what will you do?
See you on Dragon Valley 2015!

Head to Dragon Valley 2015 in BF4 Legacy Operations, Now Available
If you played Battlefield 2, you remember Dragon Valley – it was a huge map, with a massive temple, destructible bridges, and wide, open spaces. And now, with the release of the Battlefield 4 Legacy Operations DLC, you can experience the new take on the classic map in Dragon Valley 2015. It’s rolling out now, free* for all Battlefield 4 players on PS4, Xbox One and PC. You can find it in the My Games tab on Origin for PC, or in the respective console’s game store, for manual download.
Alongside its release, we are also rolling out the Holiday Update. This will be an automatic download to your platform, and is required to continue playing Battlefield 4 and the new Legacy Operations DLC.
Check here for the full Legacy Operations & Holiday Update patch notes.
If you want to see the difference ten years can make, head onto the Battlefield to see what Dragon Valley 2015 can offer. It’s not exactly the same – the team at DICE made some changes (that you can read about here) to make the modern version take advantage of everything the Frostbite engine has to offer. Those little houses scattered around the river? They’re a full village now. The miniature Power Plant/Dam Area you remember? They’re full-sized now.
It’s Dragon Valley, Battlefield 4style, and we’re really excited for you to check it out. We can’t wait to hear what you think. And, don’t forget to put in a few rounds of Air Superiority on Dragon Valley 2015, found in the Server Browser.
See you on the Battlefield!

World’s Best BF4 Teams Battle It Out in ESL One Winter 2015 Finals
The ESL One Battlefield Winter 2015 season is nearing its end as we approach the grand finals, which will determine the new champion. Eight of the best teams from around the world will travel to Cologne, Germany to battle it out for a €35,000 prize pool… and the coveted ESL One trophy.
All of the participating teams fought fiercely for a slot in the grand finals, going through numerous matches and opponents. Now the teams are ready for the final battle for the ESL One championship. Expect nothing but top-notch Battlefield 4 action!
The Teams
Six teams are competing from Europe, one from Oceania and one from the Americas:
- Epsilon eSports (Europe)
- Evolution GamerZ (Europe)
- LeiSuRe (Europe)
- inFamouS eSport (Europe)
- PENTA Sports (Europe)
- ReVo Esport (Europe)
- SYF Gaming (Oceania)
- INTZ e-Sports (Americas)
The most noticeable change in this lineup is the absence of Fnatic, who will miss the finals for the first time since ESL One Battlefield 4 began. With the crowd favorites out of the picture, it is difficult to predict who will take the ESL One Winter 2015 crown. However, still playing are the second biggest favorites, INTZ e-Sports (formerly Dexterity), who took second place at the last two season finals. We also look to Epsilon eSports, who placed in the top four at several other season finals, while another crowd-pleaser is PENTA Sports, who took third/fourth place at the Summer 2015 season finals at gamescom. In the end, however, we need to remember that everything is possible in esports and no single team is to be underestimated.
The Battle Commences Soon
The ESL One Battlefield 4 Winter 2015 season finals take place on December 12th and 13th, 2015. The teams will gather at the ESL studios in Cologne, Germany and give it their best to try and take home the trophy. Everyone aged 18+ is welcome to watch the event live. Eentry is free of charge and we are looking forward to seeing all the fans live and in person, as well as the great matches ahead of us!
If you can’t join us onsite, be sure to tune in to all the action online over at the ESL Battlefield Twitch channel. Find everything you need to know about the finals on the ESL One Battlefield 4 official website, and make sure to follow ESL Battlefield on Twitter and Facebook.
