Movember: The Moustaches of Battlefield

With Movember in full swing, DICE is busy raising money to change the face of men’s health. Therefore, we wanted to highlight some of the finest moustaches in Battlefield history.

Many moustaches have come and gone throughout the years of the Battlefield franchise – but only a few stand out. From thick and long to short and wispy, the following five ‘staches are nothing short of amazing. Ready for a trip down upper-lip memory lane? Let’s Mo.

Futuristic Facial Furniture (Battlefield 2142)

In a time of helmet visors and clean-shaven fashion, moustaches are a rare sight in the 22nd century – a dystopian world for ‘stache aficionados indeed. However, we managed to find at least one educated Battlefield 2142 soldier aware of the timeless fact: it’s careless to be hairless.

The Van Dyke (Battlefield Bad Company)

George Gordon Haggard Jr. claims he got his first shotgun at the age of 12. We’re pretty sure his moustache arrived at roughly the same time. Putting it mildly, this is a dirt squirrel that has seen a lot, smoke traces from a lifetime of demolition still living therein.

Old Bullet Proof (Battlefield Heroes)

Combined with a baritone war cry, the mighty ‘stache of this Battlefield Heroes gunner paralyzed the enemies with fear. It’s one thing being sprayed with bullets, but handlebars of this magnitude are enough to make the bravest of men reach for the white flag.

The Stiff Upper-Lip (Battlefield 3)

Even a thousand mile trip begins with a single step. The same goes for moustaches; the sight of thin whiskers in early Movember (as seen in the BF3 image above) might not impress your squad – but give it time and you’ll see a mighty soup strainer emerge.

The Punkbuster (Battlefield Hardline)

Nick Mendoza has seen both sides of the law and is not afraid to switch it up in the bro-merang department either. The crooks of Battlefield Hardline are sure to respect the authority of this face lace – extra useful during interrogations. See you on March 17, Mendoza. You have the right to remain snazzy.

Battlefield 4 Community Update

0

As we’re wrapping up the Final Stand beta on the Community Test Environment, DICE LA Live Producer David Sirland shares some interesting announcements.

Premium Quick Match Experiences

Currently, the official Quick Match servers run a pretty static set of map and mode combinations. This is something we’d like to try and mix up with some new additions, including all map and mode combinations, for Battlefield 4 Premium Membership members.

Below is our initial thoughts for what we feel the three initial experiences should be. However, this is not set in stone. We’ll consider making them available if we receive enough feedback that this is something you, the community, wants.

“Large Scale Battles”
- The best vehicle-focused Conquest Large maps
- 64 players
- Conquest Large

“Close Quarters”
- Smaller scale, infantry-focused maps and modes
- 20 players
-
Team Deathmatch, Domination

“The Battlefield”
- Battlefield at its best; a good balance between infantry and vehicular gameplay
- 32 players
-
Conquest Small, Obliteration, Rush

As the DICE team discussed what kind of Quick Match experiences we should add, we knew we wanted to let the community influence the decision. So, please give us your input: do the three experiences above cover what Battlefield is? What maps, modes, and player counts should we run?

For this occasion, we’d like to invite you to give us your thoughts in the forum: Premium Quick Match Experiences.

Ceremonial Dog Tags

Many of you have noticed that we’ve added some interesting looking Dog Tags with the Fall Update. I have been bombarded with questions about how you might acquire these rare beauties. There are six new ceremonial dog tags recently added to Battlefield 4:

Event Dog Tags (Celebration & Tournament)

These tags are only acquirable through attending gameplay events and fulfilling the criteria (there will be several occasions for this in all platforms and regions!). We’ll be sure to make an announcement on the Battlefield social channels when these events are happening.

CTE Dog Tags (Noob, Advisor, Specialist)

The CTE tags are all acquired through attendance and events through the Community Test Environment website. These tags (and the Specialist camo) are going to be acquired through the CTE website and at certain times. Since there are three levels (Noob, Advisor, Specialist) the required effort will vary. More information about the first handout of these specific dog tags will be shared on the CTE website in the near future.

DICE Friend Dog Tag

The final and most asked for Dog Tag is of course the DICE Friend Dog Tag. Acquiring this one will not be a standard affair, and is based on the following criteria:

“A DICE Friend is a nominated Battlefield 4 player who has helped DICE and Battlefield 4 through things like community building, events, tournaments, bug tracking help, or other positive influences”.

A small DICE group/committee will consider nominations on a regular basis and will publish the results in the Ceremonial Announcements Forum. Every person awarded a DICE Friend Dog Tag will be called out as to why they have been selected in this forum.

To nominate someone or to ask questions about this, please post in the Ceremonial Nominations Forum (yes, you may nominate yourself, but it looks better if someone else does it!)

Community Test Environment Opens Up to Console Premium Members

If you haven’t heard, we are happy to share that we now support BF4 Premium members playing on console on the CTE (Community Test Environment).

Console players with a Battlefield 4 Premium membership can now register to take part in the test community*. If selected, this will allow them to be able to download, install and play the PC version of the CTE client (providing they have a computer able to run the game).

The reasons for this expansion are many. For one, we want to hear from the community as a whole – we believe good ideas can come from any passionate player on any platform. We look forward to the influx of new players, new ideas, and a more active Test Environment!

To register for the CTE, head to http://cte.battlelog.com in your browser and click “Sign Up” to start the process.

That’s all for this update – See you on the Battlefield!

How to Survive in Battlefield 4: Top 5 Tips

0

So you just launched your new copy of Battlefield 4, ready to take those first steps in the glorious chaos of all-out war. It might be unnerving for a new player with all the gameplay options and pesky friends with a higher rank than you. No sweat though! Just follow our quick Battlefield 4 tips below and you’ll catch up in no time.

Vehicles and infantry go at it in the signature Conquest mode. Battleshot entry by Eristo.

Tip #1: Jump into Conquest

Unsure what game mode to try first? You’ll learn the ropes quick with the all-time Battlefield classic: Conquest. Here, your team’s job is to capture and hold the majority of the map’s flags in order to get the opponent’s ticket count down to zero. This is all-out war at its finest, where you’ll find yourself in intense shootouts, epic dog fights, clever use of gadgets, and triumphant flag captures.

Tip #2: Know Your Role

There are 4 classes to choose from in Battlefield 4 and though any class can unleash a hail of bullets, smart players utilize their class’s specialty to gain as much XP as possible.

Engineers bring down enemy vehicles and can also repair the rides of their own team. Keep that Repair Tool handy! When playing on a large map with vehicles, hitch a ride as a passenger and keep your vehicle in tip top shape – that racks up huge points.

- Don’t let the class name fool you – playing Assault is just as much about reviving and healing your teammates as it is engaging in firefights with the opposition. Keep handing out health packs, let the defibs go warm, and you’ll rank up in no time.

Support players are the main suppliers of ammo in Battlefield 4. Ammo is the basic building blocks of an all-out firefight, so keep your teammate’s lead supplies healthy with the Ammo Box gadget and gain lots of XP. The Support players also have access to the devastating Light Machine Guns.

Recon are the sharpshooters of the Battlefield who excel at staying hidden and delivering headshots from great distances. The Recon also has tons of handy gadgets up their sleeve, like the fan-favorite C4 explosives and the Motion Sensor.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze Battlepacks. Once unlocked, they’ll be waiting for you to open them up in Battlelog.

Tip #3: The Power of Battlepacks

Battlepacks can be unlocked either by purchasing them, by ranking up in Battlefield 4, going Premium – or just by taking part of events like Battlefest! Apart from soldier camos and other goodies, Battlepacks contain XP Boosts which will let you rank up faster. These boosts also stack with Double XP events, so use ‘em if you got ‘em.

Tip #4: Team Work Pays off

In addition to your primary team, you can also join a sub-team called a Squad that contains up to five players. Strive for a balanced squad with different classes represented. Assisting your squad mates earns you even more XP than you’d gain from helping out non-squad teammates. Every little bit counts!

Tip #5: Play the Objective

You might have seen the abbreviation “PTFO” flying around the Battlefield community, and this is a key concept in the world of Battlefield. You should know that this (roughly) means “Play the Objective”. In other words, if the game mode is about capturing flags, you should either capture flags – or help your team do it!

Ready to join the all-out war of Battlefield 4? We can highly recommend Battlefield 4 Premium Edition, packed with the base game, all five Battlefield 4 expansions, 12 Battlepacks, and more.
